How do you choose a credit card? With the number of credit card issuers, it is easy to get confused. You are sure to choose the card that offers you the best rates. The law also gives you certain tools for help in this regard. If you are not aware of these, you had better get the details about what is legal and what is not.
Suppose you get a credit card in your daily mail for use. If you did not request for it and if it is not a replacement for a card you own or use, the card issuer’s action is illegal. Unless a consumer requests a new card, or a replacement for an existing one, the card issuer cannot send him/her a credit card.
Moreover, as per the directives of the Truth in Lending Act (TILA), the credit card company must issue a brief disclosure statement with each request. It also needs to provide extensive disclosure regarding the terms and conditions of use before a consumer start using the card.
